Monument Will Recognize John Rocca

Sonora, CA — Tuolumne County leaders have approved the placement of a monument in Jamestown to honor longtime resident John Rocca.

Rocca was a community leader and former county Supervisor.

The rock monument with a plaque will be placed in Rocca Park. Tuolumne County acquired the park in 1980 and since that time several improvements have been made, including improvements to the crosswalks and bringing back the former jail structure. Funding for the monument will come from the Gianelli family and Jamestown Promotion Club. A request to place it was approved by the Board of Supervisors this week. County dollars will not be used.

The Jamestown Promotion Club plans to dedicate the monument at the Heritage Day Celebration on October 17th.
