Don Pedro, CA — The Tuolumne County Board of Education has approved the creation of a Golden Lakes Charter School in the Don Pedro area.

The proposal was initially voted down by the Big Oak Flat-Groveland Unified School District earlier this year and then appealed to the county. The charter will begin on July 1st, 2011, according to Joe Silva, Tuolumne County Superintendent of Schools.

The County Board of Education voted 5-1 in favor of the charter. The school will enroll up to 120 students. It will likely be housed at the current Don Pedro High School or nearby.
