Sonora, CA — The Sonora High Wildcats are closing in on the goal of raising $250,000 for new lights at Dunlavy Field but are still around $50,000 short.
Principal Todd Deardon says a fundraiser will be held in correlation with the final home basketball game of the season on February 20 against Oakdale. All former Sonora athletes have been invited to attend the game, which has been moved to the Oak Pavillion at Columbia College.
“We´ll be raffling off a car that we´ve been selling tickets for, and after the game at the Elks Lodge we´re going to have a celebration of Coach Rick Francis´ 37 years of service at Sonora High School,” says Deardon.
At the Elks Lodge, the top ten bidders of an auction will have a chance to “roast” the coach.
Deardon says he hopes the final funding will be raised in time for the lights to be installed by the coming football season.
