Sonora, CA — Tuolumne County has approved a settlement with Colleen Lucido of Groveland who rode her bicycle off Big Creek Shaft Bridge in 2006.
Lucido will receive $625,000 in exchange for dropping a lawsuit against the county for gross negligence.
A guard rail was missing along the road due to a previous vehicle collision, and Lucido claimed that this was the primary cause of her accident.
Tuolumne County will be responsible for paying only a fraction of the settlement.
It was noted at Tuesday’s Board of Supervisors meeting that the county must cover the $10,000 deductible, and the remaining liability will be covered by an insurance pool of California Counties.
The settlement was at the recommendation of County Counsel Gregory Oliver.
