Update: Vegetation Fire In Tuolumne County

Update at 3 p.m.: CAL Fire spokesperson Emily Kilgore tells Clarke Broadcasting that the Peppermint Fire has been contained at 2 acres. While several structures were initially threatened, none were damaged and no evacuations were ordered. However. Tuolumne County Sheriff’s spokesperson Sgt. Andrea Benson notes that two homeowners on O’Neil Court voluntarily evacuated during the fire, but are now back in their homes.

All aircraft have returned to base. A section of Rawhide and Peppermint Creek roads remain shutdown by the CHP. CAL Fire reports the closure will remain in place for another 30 to 45 minutes while crews mop up. Kilgore reports that what sparked the blaze is under investigation.

Update at 2:45 p.m.: Columbia aircraft and ground crews are battling a vegetation fire in Tuolumne County.

CAL Fire has dubbed it the Peppermint Fire and it is one acre in size and burning in grass  near the roadside monument on Rawhide Road near Peppermint Creek Road in the Jamestown area. There are several structures threatened, but there have been no evacuations called for at this time.

The CHP is shutting down that section of Rawhide and Peppermint Creek roads. We will update this information as soon as new details come into the newsroom.
