San Andreas, CA — In a cost cutting move the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors has decided to eliminate the Community Development Agency and deconsolidate the Planning and Building Departments into separate agencies.
The final vote was 3-2. Voting in favor was Tom Tryon, Gary Toffanelli and Merita Callaway, while against was Russ Thomas and Steve Willensky.
The deconsolidation will allow the county to cut the CDA position which receives a salary of $171,000 and has been empty since Stephanie Moreno stepped down last summer.
“Because of budget constraints, I would acknowledge that it wasn’t possible to fill the position right now,” says Thomas, Board Chair. “I was thinking there was some justification in the leaving the organizational structure the way it was, and just not put someone in the governing position right now.”
Interim Community Development Director John Taylor has submitted his resignation effective this Friday.
