Sonora, CA — A Tuolumne County native has been selected from a pool 44 candidates from the across the U.S. to become the next CEO of the Sonora Area Foundation.
Mark Bergstrom will step into the position currently held by retiring Mick Grimes on May 1st.
“We’re very pleased with this selection,” says Foundation Board President Celeste Boyd. “He’s a native son who is familiar with how the community thinks and is always open to listening.”
Bergstrom is a graduate of Sonora High School and spent 20 years in the private sector specializing in rail and bus management consulting throughout the U.S. and internationally. He sold his firm, Transportation Management and Design in 1998 and has spent the past 10 years serving in non-profit management positions.
“I think the Board selected an excellent person as the Foundation’s new CEO,” says Grimes. “Mark Bergstrom is a seasoned executive who brings years of varied experiences and knowledge to his new position.”
Since moving back to Sonora four years ago, Bergstrom has worked closely with the Suicide Prevention Task Force, Chairing the Community Education Committee; consulting and advising Dawn’s Light on development of a strategic plan; and public speaking on depression in the work place throughout the Bay Area.
