New Radio System Helps Sheriff’s Office Better Communicate

Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office recently completed a $1.4 million upgrade of its radio communication system.

Under Sheriff Keith Lunney told the Board of Supervisors that the new system went live in January and has been performing seamlessly ever since.

The old system had radio repeaters on three mountain tops, while the new system is located on six mountains. Lunney says it is allowing deputies to communicate noticeably better in Jamestown, Columbia and the Emigrant Wilderness.

It is also possible to communicate directly with other agencies with the new high band system, which should prove valuable during Fire Season and other county emergencies.
