Murphys, CA — A Calaveras County woman has been cleared of identity theft charges.
Emilie Sutton was charged on August 15th of using a relative’s credit card to purchase items at the Murphys Square Mini Mart. The Calaveras County District Attorney’s Office says Sutton presented an airtight alibi for some of the purchases, having been out of town when the transactions occurred. She also passed a polygraph test.
The DA’s Office says further investigation revealed that it was actually an inside job. Michelle Hughes, a clerk at the store, has been arrested for allegedly using the victim’s card information to purchase $2,000 worth of items over the course of a month and a half.
