Grazing Seminar Coming To Jamestown

A free workshop and seminar on the environmental benefits of grazing, is going to be held at K-Arrow Ranch in Jamestown on April 17th.

Amy Rocha with the USDA-NRCS, a co-sponsor of the event, was KVML’s Wednesday Newsmaker of the Day.

The USDA-NRCS is a federal agency, which works in close association with the Tuolumne County Resource Conservation District, another key sponsor of the workshop. This is the grassroots organization that supports Natural Resource Conservation in Tuolumne County and was voted in as Measure L, a few years ago. The Sierra Nevada Conservancy is helping to fund the workshop.

Book author Dan Dagget will be the guest speaker at the workshop. Dagget will showcase a presentation about how when correctly used, grazing can help restore and sustain wildlife habitat. Dagget himself was once a radical environmentalist and member of the Earth First organization. After numerous studies however, Dagget saw that once grazing was removed, there were several case studies of a significant loss in endangered species.

The workshop will run from 9:30am through 2pm and includes lunch. Registration is required and all reservations must be made by April 8th. Call the Natural Conservation Service at (209) 533-8866.

The Newsmaker of the Day can be heard each weekday morning at 6:47, 7:47 and 8:47 on AM-1450 KVML.
