Jamestown, CA — An unidentified 23-year-old female was found dead Friday evening after falling into the Oakdale Irrigation Canal just west of the south shore of Lake Tulloch.
The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office says the woman reportedly had been swimming with a male friend and fell into the canal.
The male attempted to help her, without success. He then flagged down a citizen who was able to call for help.
The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department Air Unit was dispatched to assist and located the female in the water near Hwy 108 and Wilms Rd.
An autopsy has been scheduled for early next week. The name is not being released by authorities pending notification of family members.
The accident was reported at 5:30pm and the victim was located at 8:30pm.
