First Ever “Volunteen Fairs” Debut Next Week

The first ever “Volunteen Fair” will arrive at Tuolumne County area high schools next week.

These are structured similar to the much more common “job fairs”.

Karen Luckhardt, the spokesperson for Leadership Tuolumne County, was Wednesday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.

Leadership Tuolumne County is sponsored though the Tuolumne County Chamber of Commerce. The class of 2009 decided to create these Volunteen Fairs.

The first Volunteen Fair will take place at Sonora High School on Monday April 27th. Students will have a chance to see, learn and find information about what the twenty different participating non-profit organizations do.

“Our main goal is that we would like students to be interested enough that they will volunteer for these organizations,” Luckhardt said. “Colleges are looking for well rounded students and that includes seeing volunteering and community service on their applications.”

The organizations participating, such as Friends of Animal Control and the Mounted Dream Center, are thrilled to have an opportunity to talk with teenagers and possibly recruit some new volunteers.

The “Newsmaker of the Day” is heard each weekday morning on AM 1450 KVML at 6:47, 7:47 and 8:47am.
