Sacramento, CA — Lt. Gov. John Garamendi is withdrawing from the crowded field seeking the Democratic nomination for California governor.
The Associated Press says Garamendi is eyeing the Bay-area congressional seat that Rep. Ellen Tauscher is expected to vacate after being nominated for a post in the Obama administration.
Garamendi is a Calaveras County native. He has trailed other contenders such as former Gov. Jerry Brown and San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom in recent polls.
Early contenders for the Republican ticket include Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner and former Ebay CEO Meg Whitman.
