Columbia, CA — Columbia College President Dr. Joan Smith doesn’t have an exact dollar amount but she fears state funding cuts due to the defeat of Proposition 1C Tuesday.
Smith commented, “Our enrollment is going up for many reasons. Tuition has gone up at the U.C. and Cal State campuses. New students are maximizing their dollar by coming to us.” Smith added, “In addition to that the unemployment rates have spurred a lot of people to come back to school for retraining.”
Recently Yosemite Community College District Chancellor Dr. Roe Darnell commented that if Prop. 1C failed it would cost Columbia College 20 percent of its budget or approximately $1.5 million.
