VNA Hospice Moving To Private Sector

Sonora, CA ā€” The Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to move services offered by the Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice of the Sierra to the private sector.

The services will likely be picked up by Sonora Regional Medical Center, and the Board has directed county staff to begin negotiations with hospital leaders.

SRMC CEO Jeff Eller told the Supervisors, ā€œI want you to know that Iā€™m confident that we have the capabilities, skills and competence to continue the traditions that have already been established.ā€

County VNA Home Health services have been offered to patients that are being observed or treated for an illness, while Hospice of the Sierra services are specifically for patients who are nearing the end of life.

County officials estimate that it would have cost $405,319 to continue both of the services through June 30, 2010. Moving to the private sector will cost the county no more than $72,168.
