Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County Supervisors will have to make difficult decisions Tuesday as the fiscal year 2009/10 budget faces a $7.2 million deficit.
According to CAO Craig Pedro, the proposed General Fund budget of $55,878,595 is down 11.5% from last year.
Pedro is recommending that the county reduce its employee base by 12.4% or 99 positions. If approved, layoffs would go into effect July 1st and the number of county employees would fall from 797 to 698.
Some of the services offered by the county would transfer to the private sector, which may offer employment opportunities for the workers that will be laid off. The following is a breakdown of the proposed budget:
