Sonora, CA – The number of home sales in Tuolumne County is on the rise.
The Tuolumne County Association of Realtors says that 41 homes were sold in May which is up from 32 homes in May of 2008. This past April there were 29 homes sold, which is up one from 28 in April of 2008. The average home price during the month of May was $248,200, while in May of last year it was $309,500.
“This is probably the best opportunity that first time homebuyers have had in some years,” says Ann Ritchie, Tuolumne County Association of Realtors Director “The prices have come down, and the interest rates still remain very low.”
Ritchie attributes lower prices and an increasing number of foreclosures as major reasons for the increase in sales.
