Yosemite, CA — Yosemite National Park has extended the public scoping period for the Merced River Plan until November 27th.
Officials say they added an additional 90 days in order to give residents adequate time to go over the plan and submit any thoughts or concerns.
The National Park Service originally completed the Merced Wild and Scenic River Comprehensive Management Plan/Environmental Impact Statement in August of 2000. Due to ongoing litigation, the U.S. District Court in Fresno ordered the National Park Service to complete an updated plan for the Merced River.
Once completed, the Merced River Plan will guide all future activities and projects in the river corridor to insure the protection and enhancement of the river.
A public meeting to discuss the plan is being organized for the Groveland area, but the date and time has not been decided.
