Yosemite National Park, CA — This morning Yosemite National Park resumed management of the Big Meadow Fire from California Interagency Incident Management Team One which had been directing the firefighting effort since August 26.
Hazard tree cutting and debris removal will continue along the Big Oak Flat Rd. today until the road reopens at 5pm. Firefighters are patrolling all areas of the fire to mop up hot spots, restoring trails and fireline to their natural condition. In addition they will be packing hose and other firefighting equipment.
The 14 day old fire has burned 7,425 acres and was considered 100 percent contained Sunday.
From a high of 13-hundred plus, only 398 firefighters remain on site. Today’s resources include four hand crews, 13 engines, seven water tenders and three helicopters.
The estimated cost of fighting the two week old fire now stands at $15.8 million.
