Sonora, CA — During the Thursday noon hour the Sonora Police Department contacted a resident who had reported finding a possible military explosive device within their residence.
The device was identified as a WW II era mortar. It was secured and removed to a safe location and detonated by the Calaveras County Bomb Squad.
The S.P.D. reminds residents should you locate any type of military ordinance be sure and contact your local law enforcement agency immediately and have the device disposed of properly. Most of these devices become extremely unstable with time and need to handled only by professionals.
