The Calaveras County Supervisors have passed a 2009/10 fiscal budget of $146,320,244.
“It has been a long process and very complicated given that we didn’t know what the state was going to do to us,” says Board Chair Russ Thomas. “I don’t think any member of the Board is completely at ease that we won’t have to go back and make adjustments, especially given that the legislature has not let us know how they will do the backfilling of tax money they are taking away.”
Thomas says around 50 positions have been cut in the county. Many were open positions that the county will not fill and others were in the form of layoffs.
The County’s new budget includes a contingency fund of over $400,000 to deal with unexpected costs.
