Sonora, CA — Despite the cooler temperatures, September is the peak of fire season and this year it’s no exception.
From CAL Fire Fire Prevention Officer Gordon Willingham, “The fuel moistures are as low as I’ve seen them in a number of years. People need to remember that we are in the peak of our fire season.
Sunday a golfer clipped a rock with a three iron and started a four acre fire at Mountain Springs Golf Club. Just last night a deer hunter in the San Andreas area was responsible for a fire that was started when the heat from his catalytic converter ignited a fire acre vegetation fire.”
Willingham reminds individuals who are using any kind of mechanical equipment, i.e., lawnmowers, weed eaters, to do so prior to 10am.
