Murphys, CA – The 2009 Calaveras Grape Stomp was held Saturday at Murphys Community Park.
The event is put on by the Calaveras Winegrape Alliance and celebrates the annual wine crush in the county. Two person teams walk onto a stage and work to stomp grapes in a barrel as quickly as they can. The “stomper” crushes the grapes by foot and the “mucker” works to make sure the grape juice is flowing through a spout at the bottom of the barrel. The team that has the most grape juice in the bucket is declared the winner.
2009 marks the 16th year of the event that also features a live and silent auction, food vendors and a street faire. The event opened up at 9:30am and closes at 5pm.
