Debris Burn Season To Reopen Tomorrow

Sonora, CA — Effective 8am tomorrow CAL Fire will lift the suspension on debris burning.

While the Mother Lode was bone dry just a couple of days ago conditions have rapidly changed with Tuesday’s prolific rain and wind storm.

Those who wish to burn must have a valid permit. Those are available at any CAL Fire Station. On “burn days” burning will be permitted 24 hours a day.

In order to follow all regulations, burn pile size can be no more than four feet in diameter … keep a water supply close to the burn site … stay in attendance at all times with a shovel and NEVER burn in windy conditions.

From CAL Fire Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit Chief Mike Noonan; “Even though the danger of large and damaging wild land fires has diminished, a fire can still escape. It is critical that the person conducting the burn keep close watch on the fire at all times. If the fire gets away that person can be held liable for the damage and suppression costs.”

“Burn” or “no burn” days can be checked on myMotherLode.com or by calling 533-5598 in Tuolumne County, 754-6600 in Calaveras County and 785-7664 in the Copperopolis area.
