Calaveras County Registers Sixth H1N1 Case

San Andreas, CA — Calaveras County has registered its sixth case of the H1N1 influenza.

According to the Public Health Department a 74 year old Arnold resident was hospitalized in intensive care during September for serious illness from the H1N1 flu. The gentleman did recover.

Public health officials are concerned about the potential for large numbers of people to become ill this fall and winter due to both the H1N1 flu and the seasonal flu.

Target groups for the H1N1 vaccine include pregnant women and children between the ages of six months all the way up to those 24 years of age. Persons between the ages of 25 and 64 with a chronic medical condition and health care workers are also members of the target group.

In Calaveras County the H1N1 vaccine is now available in limited amounts for children two to nine years of age and household members of young infants.
