Sonora, CA — In a brief ceremony the city celebrated its 14th annual Arbor Day today with the planting of a tree (pictured with City Council members) on Shepherd St. in downtown Sonora.
City Administrator Greg Applegate commented, “This was created to form Tree City, USA, a program to have areas reforest their communities. We have now for the past 14 years been designated as Tree City, USA.
We have certain criteria we have to meet such as having a budget, an arbores on staff and a proclamation that we have to put together.
I think the evidence of this after 14 years is all over the community in our parking lots, everywhere in our community we have planted trees way before this popular Go Green went into effect. I would like to think our city was way above the curve on that.”
