Sonora, CA — The fifth C.H.P. Maximum Enforcement Period of the year will open this evening at six o’clock.
All available officers throughout the state will be on the lookout for those who exceed the posted speed limit and are suspected of driving under the influence of either alcohol or drugs (street and prescription).
Officers will also be checking for those who failed to wear their seatbelts and the incorrect installation or missing child safety restraint seats for those under 60 pounds.
Officers will also be diligent in pulling over those who are talking on cell phones that are not of the hand-free variety.
While there were no fatalities in either Tuolumne or Calaveras counties over the five day weekend a year ago, 33 people were killed in California traffic related accidents.
