Counterfeit Bills Being Passed Around County

Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office is receiving multiple reports of counterfeit bills being spent at local businesses.

One example occurred on December 5th when a suspect gave a $50 bill to a Jamestown Christmas tree dispenser and was given $30 in change. The suspect said he would return to pick up the tree, but he was not seen again. The suspect is described as being a white male, early 20’s, average build, and wearing a plaid flannel shirt, blue jeans, and a gray Raiders beanie.

Lt. Ken Diaz says there have been multiple other reports of $20 and $50 counterfeit bills being passed around the county.

If you have any information that would help in the investigation, you should call the Sheriff’s Office at 533-5815.
