Sonora, CA — The fire at the Bombay Restaurant at 301 S. Washington St. has been extinguished.
According to Sonora Fire Department Captain Todd McNeal the fire started at approximately 9:45. Responding crews checked to make sure all restaurant workers and a family living upstairs had exited the building.
Firefighters vented the building as smoke billowed from the burning structure. Once firefighters had exited the building the structure was drenched from ground level and a firefighter on a hook and ladder truck.
Mop-up operations are well underway. S. Washington St. from Church to William remains closed.
Extent of damage and the exact cause have yet to be determined.
