Area Non-Profits Receive Grants From SAF

Sonora, CA — The Sonora Area Foundation, along with the Irving J. Symons Foundation, has recently given out another round of grants to area non-profits.

According to CEO Mark Bergstrom, the largest award went to the Tuolumne County Behavioral Health Department, taking in $30,000 to expand community recruitment and training.

The Smile Keepers Program out of the Tuolumne County Schools Office, received a $25,000 matching grant. Smile Keepers provides dental screenings and preventative hygiene services to more than 3,300 students in the county.

Dawn’s Light received $5,000 to coordinate and provide grief education and support to area students.

The Gold Rush Black Heritage Project received $4,000. The group researches and puts on events highlighting the history of the more than 5,000 African Americans who were part of the California Gold Rush.

Tuolumne County’s Economic Development Authority received $5,000 to help start its new Small Business Center.

WATCH Resources Support received $6,310 to help upgrade its computers and software. The organization helps developmentally disabled residents.

Dancing With Tuolumne County Stars was given $2,846 to pay for insurance and help cover expenses related to its event held over the summer.

Sierra Rep. Theatre was given $20,000 to support its year-round season of live stage productions and cover new costs at the Fallon House Theatre.
