Many in the Mother Lode are donating their time this holiday season so that those who are less fortunate can experience a warm Christmas dinner.
Tuolumne County’s Community Christmas Eve Day Dinner coordinator, Cathy Peacock, was Thursday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.
Peacock once again expects residents to pack into the Mother Lode Fairgrounds during the Dinner today from noon through 6pm.
In years past, over 1,700 meals have been served and Peacock anticipates somewhere near the same number again today.
A total of over five hundred toys will be handed out to children up to the age of 16.
Peacock says more than 200 volunteers help with the preparation and service in addition to the many community residents and businesses who have contributed turkeys to the cause.
Peacock says the people who volunteer and donated seem to enjoy giving back to the community. Peacock says she has never seen an instance when the local residents haven´t come forth when needed.
The “Newsmaker of the Day” is heard each weekday morning on AM 1450 KVML at 6:47, 7:47 and 8:47am.
