Sunday Vegetation Fires Hit Tuolumne And Calaveras Counties

San Andreas, CA — CAL Fire and local government fire crews responded to a pair of Sunday vegetation fires.

According to CAL Fire Communications Operator Jim DeVoll at the Emergency Command Center, a small escaped debris burn was reported at 12:38pm in the Italian Bar area. Responding were a battalion chied, one CAL Fire engine, four local government engines, two local government water tenders and CAL Fire´s Helicopter 404 for water drops.

At 3:38pm crews responded to a one acre escaped debris burn in the Paloma area between Mokelumne Hill and Valley Springs. Italian and Foothill fire chiefs responded along with two CAL Fire engines, two local government engines, a water tender, Helicopter 404 and one hand crew from the Vallecito Camp.

Also Sunday there was a half-acre vegetation fire that was quickly contained at 3486 Davis Drive in the Burson area.

DeVoll added that only 30 acres burned in the first four months of last year due to vegetation fires. Already this year burned acreage has exceeded 140 acres.
