Angels Camp, Ca — The official start of construction on the Angels Camp Bypass was Monday, but it will be a few weeks before there is any major ground moving.
Calaveras Council of Governments Executive Director Tim McSorley says the construction crews had a “late discovery” just a few weeks ago, as a Native American site was located.
McSorley says this requires workers to carefully unearth the newly found artifacts located just south of Murphys Grade Rd, and catalog what is discovered.
The historical site likely dates back to the 1800´s.
Teichert Construction is in charge of the $61 million project that will allow commuters to bypass downtown Angels Camp, and hopefully alleviate congestion during peak hours.
