Capital Protest Will Have Tuolumne County Representation

Sonora, Ca — Some groups from Tuolumne County will be heading to Sacramento on April 21st to take part in a protest march from Sutter´s Fort to the State Capital steps in an effort to raise awareness about the potential closure of Railtown 1897 and 47 other state parks.

“It is going to be a gathering of everyone who values our state historic parks,” says Tuolumne County Visitors Bureau Executive Director Nanci Sikes.

The protest walk will begin at Sutter´s Fort at 10am. Many participants will be dressing in period costumes, and some will be conducting western re-enactments.

The Tuolumne County Visitors Bureau says anyone interested in taking part in the walk should contact the office (533-9520) by Monday, April 14. The event is being organized by the California State Parks Foundation and the California State Railroad Museum Foundation.
