Twain Harte, CA — Tuolumne County law enforcement agencies including the Sheriff´s Office, the Sonora Police Department, the Highway Patrol, the Probation Department and the Fish and Game Department will be receiving a check for $1,800 today from the Twain Harte Middle School student body.
Middle School teacher Nancy Anderson originated the idea as a way to be proactive in dealing with any potential armed campus intruders.
After acquiring sponsors students played a form of basketball known as Knockout to raise the funds. While Anderson came up with the idea she gives full credit to the Student Council and the students for raising the money.
According to Sonora Police Department Lt. Mark Stinson, the funds may be utilized to build a mock classroom for training purposes.
Anderson adds that Twain Harte Middle School is now challenging all Tuolumne County Schools to see if they can match or even exceed the effort put forth by her students.
