Angels Camp, Ca — Some residents of Angels Camp have joined together to create the communities first Neighborhood Watch group.
This past week, Angels Camp PD Crime Prevention Officer Kathy Maxwell met with a group of concerned citizens in the Greenhorn Creek area, and she says the group unanimously decided to join together to make the neighborhood a safer place to live.
The group will keep an eye out for things such as suspicious vehicles, potential robberies, mail theft and graffiti. Currently there are 60 homeowners in the Greenhorn Creek area who plan on participating, and Maxwell says the program will soon be expanded to the rest of Angels Camp.
Neighborhood Watch, a national organization and a part of Community Oriented Policing, was first introduced in Calaveras County in 1996. Officer Maxwell, then with the Calaveras County Sheriff´s Department, was able to organize several Neighborhood Watch groups throughout the County.
She says the exception was the City of Angels Camp, because it is not a part of the Sheriff´s Department jurisdiction.
