Sonora, CA — The name of Army Sgt. Bobby Rapp will be in the hearts and minds of many Mother Lode residents today.
The 22 year old Sonora High graduate, a member of the 82nd Airborne Division based out of Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, will be laid to rest after being killed by a suicide bomber in Afghanistan a week ago Monday.
This morning at nine o´clock a procession of 10 cars headed by law enforcement personnel is scheduled to depart Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home. The procession will proceed southbound on Washington St., east on Hwy 108 until exiting on Mono Way. The procession will then take Tuolumne Rd. to Sierra Bible Church for the 10am Celebration of Life service.
Senior Pastor Mark Levering will open the service with a welcome. Remembrances will then follow. Pastor Michael Roberson will sing Amazing Grace. Pastor Rick Larson will then deliver a message of comfort and hope to be followed by a closing prayer.
A full military burial will then take place at Dambacher Cemetary on Lyons Bald Mountain Rd.
Just last August another Mother Lode resident lost his life in the Middle East. Groveland Army Sgt. Matthew L. Tallman died in a helicopter crash in Multaka, Iraq. He was a member of the Fourth Squadron, Sixth U.S. Air Cavalry Regiment based out of Ft. Lewis, Washington.
