Yosemite, Ca — It was big year when it came to tourists visiting Yosemite National Park.
In 2006, Yosemite had 3.35 million visitors. Park spokesperson Scott Gediman says that the final numbers for 2007 won´t be released until later this week, but the park had already surpassed last year´s number by the end of November.
“It looks like we are going to be at 3.5 million or higher,” says Gediman. “This will turn out to be the busiest year in about six or seven years.”
As for the increase, Gediman says Yosemite has been working with gateway communities over the past few years to better market the park. One of which that he specifically points out is the Tuolumne County Visitors Bureau.
With high gas prices and a staggering economy, Gediman also notes that the park is seeing an up-tick in guests who reside in California who are choosing to stay close to home when vacationing.
