Tuolumne County, CA — As of 0830 hours today the North Mountain Fire had consumed 2,750 acres according to Public Affairs Officer Dennis Cross.
The fire is listed as 50 percent contained, an improvement of 15 percent over Monday´s last report. Fire officials have yet to announce a definitive time of total containment.
Cross adds that the balance of the fire is in the northeastern area and that little if any smoke is being emitted. Skies are basically clear and smoke free.
A number of the firefighters are being flown by helicopter to “spike” camps where they will remain for two to three days in order to eliminate the daily travel back and forth from the base camp.
Cross adds that water is not being taken out of Lake Don Pedro to fight the fire. The Tuolumne River is the source of water. Secondly Cross makes clear that Camp Mather has not been evacuated or are there any evac orders in effect at this time. Contingency plans have been made but none have been executed.
