Stearn Takes Over The Gavel As Sonora Mayor

Sonora, CA — Ron Stearn will take over the gavel as Sonora´s new mayor this evening when the City Council closes out its series of July meetings.

According to Administrator Greg Applegate there are two key items on this evening´s agenda.

The first item deals with the city applying for a $35,000 Planning Technical Assistant Grant from the California State Community Development Department. Every five years the city conducts a housing survey to document an indication of the market as to owner-occupied and renter-occupied housing. The survey also helps the city prepare for future grant applications.

Also this evening the City Council will be awarding a bid for Phase Two of the Shaws Flat Storm Drain Project. The initial phase was completed over a year-and-a-half ago. This project will include shoulder widening near Sonora High School in addition to correcting safety problems with respect to drainage. According to Applagate construction should start in late August of this year.

The open-to-the-public City Council meeting will get underway at five o´clock in the upstairs Council Chambers.
