Telegraph Fires Reaches 60 Percent Containment

Mariposa, CA — According to CAL Fire officials firefighters have reached a 60 percent containment figure for the 34,034 acre (53 square mile) Telegraph Fire.

Sierra National Forest Public Information Officer Sue Exline states that only two miles of line needs to be laid before the fire is 100 percent contained.

The active fire is currently burning north of the Briceburg area in Jenkins Hill and the Soapstone Ridge area. The fire has moved into the Stanislaus National Forest.

Thursday another 100 people moved back into their homes. Over 300 have now re-entered their respective communities in the Midpines and Greeley Hill areas. The majority of residents have been allowed to re-enter their communities with the exception of Sherlock Rd. and parts of the Midpines community.

Friday evening community meetings at seven o´clock are scheduled for the Midpines Community Center and Greeley Elementary School.

Current resources include 96 hand crews 466 engines, 55 water tenders, 65 dozers, 15 helicopters and 12 air tankers. Total personnel assigned; 4,531. The cost of fighting the Telegraph Fire to date; $23,847,564. Six more injuries were reported Thursday for a total of 22 minor injuries.

Structures destroyed remains at 21. Outbuildings destroyed number 33. 2,000 residences remain threatened by the eight day old fire.

Hwy 140 east of Mariposa is subject o various restrictions based on fire activity. Travel on Hwy 140 may be subject to CHP vehicle escorts. There are various other restrictions to roads in and around the fire area.
