Update: Red Flag Warning Issued For The Mother Lode

A Red Flag Warning remains in effect for both the Mother Lode and the Stanislaus National Forest through 11 AM this morning.

High pressure over the Pacific Northwest and into the Great Basin will continue gusty north to east wind today.

According to the National Weather Service, winds of ten to thirty mph will continue with local gusts ranging from forty to fifty mph.

The combination of very warm temperatures and low humidity has brought critical fire weather conditions over portions of Northern California.

Poor overnight humidity recoveries range from thirty to forty percent with widespread daytime minimum humidities mostly in the teens.

The highest threat is during the night and morning hours, especially over the ridges and through the canyons. That is when winds will be the strongest.

Any fires that do develop will likely spread rapidly.

Winds will decrease by Thursday, shifting to southwesterly during the day.

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
