Sonora, CA — Thanks to a citizen that “got involved” two unidentified teens have been apprehended by Tuolumne County Sheriff´s deputies after stealing thousands of dollars worth of goods from vehicles in the Tuolumne City area August 29-30.
According to Lt. Dan Bressler items taken from a number of unlocked cars included cell phones, I-pods, cash, a GPS unit, a pair of gloves, a set of goggles, a backpack, a snowboarding camera, a car battery charger, video games, a PSP player and a number of other items.
Some of the items were found in the home of the second suspect, a 16 year old who lives on Main Street in Tuolumne City. The first suspect is a 15 year old who resides on Ranier Ct. in the Crystal Falls aea.
One “involved citizen” witnessed the breakin of his vehicle and chased the two before giving up the effort. With that information and additional information from other sources the deputies were able to identify and locate the two youths. Both junveniles have been released to their parents.
Lt. Bressler adds several key reminders: locke your vehicles at night, remove all valuables from your vehicles at night, report a theft immediately, report ANY suspicious activity and don´t be afraid to become “involved.” It´s a great way to serve your community.
Finally, if your child attends Summerville High School and has come home with a cell phone, an I-pod or other items they didn´t purchase themselves, contact the Sheriff´s Office immediately at (209) 533-5815. Those items may have been taken during these thefts.
