San Andreas, Ca — After a full day of meetings in Berkeley, Sheriff Dennis Downum says that the State Correctional Standards Authority has agreed to award $26 million to Calaveras County for a new jail facility.
?Financially it has been a tremendous day,? says Downum. ?I think it has taken about five years off my life, but financially it has been great.?
Calaveras was initially only going to receive a fraction of the $26 million requested, but Kings County was not able to put together plans for a re-entry facility, dropping Kings out of contention.
Downum says that the County can now move forward with more of the planning and design phases of the project.
