Copperopolis, Ca — A 48-year-old Copperopolis resident has the first human case of the mosquito transmitted West Nile Virus this year in Calaveras County.
?The West Nile Virus season continues until we see a sustained drop in temperature,? says County Health Officer Dr. Dean Kelaita. ?High levels of mosquito activity generally continue until the end of October.?
The Copperopolis resident had traveled out of the state, so it is unknown where the infection occurred. Residents can fend off mosquito bites by wearing insect repellent with DEET, limiting outdoor activities between dawn and dusk, wearing long sleeves and draining standing water.
No human cases have been reported this year in Tuolumne County.
