Wild And Scenic Rivers Celebration Moved To New Location

Groveland, Ca — Organizers of an event designed to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act have been forced to change the venue due to the threat of rain.

Jerry Snyder with the Stanislaus National Forest says Saturday´s celebration scheduled for Mary Laveroni Community Park in Groveland has been moved to Tenaya Elementary School.

Forty years ago, as more of the nation´s rivers were being dammed and diverted, Congress passed the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act to balance the national policy of dam construction. Signed into law in 1968 by President Lyndon Johnson, the act created a process to protect many rivers in a free flowing state.

The free festival is organized by the Stanislaus National Forest and Yosemite Chamber of Commerce. It will run from 10am-3pm. Activities will be set up for the entire family, including games, workshops, live music and local food sampling.
