Sonora, Ca — The Tuolumne County Search and Rescue Team concentrated its effort in finding 42-year-old Christopher Andrews in an area approximately ? miles north of Iceland Lake because officials felt that the hiker would be traveling north towards Relief Reservoir Friday in an attempt to beat the incoming storm.
The 42-year-old Burlingame resident was hiking by himself Friday in the Emigrant Wilderness when the California Office of Emergency Services contacted the Sheriff´s Office regarding a personal locating beacon that was emitting a 911 signal.
Deputy Paul Tualla reports that one of the searchers caught a glimpse of some personal effects on the ground Monday afternoon. The searcher then looked up towards a large area of granite and saw what appeared to be the outline of a human in one of the crevasses.
The area was not accessible from below, so searchers had to rappel down where they were able recover the body of the missing hiker.
An autopsy will take place in the coming days.
