Sonora, CA — It´s now 26 days and counting for the 2008 nationwide General Election.
Tuolumne County Elections Official Debi Russell reminds residents that October 20 is the deadline for voter registration. You must be 18 years of age, a United States citizen and a county resident. Registration can take place at the Elections Office on the main floor of the County Administration Building at 2 S. Green St. in Sonora.
In addition the last day torequest a vote-by-mail ballot is October 28th.
Russell also has reminders for those who vote-by-mail this year. Make sure you sign the envelope that contains your ballot but DO NOT sign the ballot itself. If you make a mistake on your ballot you can request another one from the Elections Office. If you are not sure your vote-by-mail ballot will reach the Elections Office in time by mail, you can drop it off at the Office or at any polling location no later than November 4.
With the passage of Senate Bill 381, California voters will be able to vote on line on the VoteCal website but that will not be up and running until 2010. Washington and Arizona voters can already use the internet to vote on-line.
