San Andreas, CA — When the Calaveras County Supervisors meet at the Government Center today the five Board members will discuss the possible layoff of eight employees of the county´s Building Department.
Interim Community Development Agency Director John Taylor, who is recommending his own departure effective December 31, 2008, has stated that the county will end the fiscal year collecting only half of the anticipated building permit fees hence the possible layoff of eight employees. According to CAO Bob Lawton unrealized revenue will amount to approximately $375,000 this year. The proposed layoffs include four building inspectors, a Senior Code Enforcement Officer, two Permit Technicians and a half-time Accounting Technician.
According to a detailed memo from his office Taylor is proposing a merger of the county´s Environmental Management Agency with the combined resources of the Planning and Building Departments.
Also in today´s meeting there will be a resolution to accept the canvass of results of votes cast at the November 4 General Election with the declaration to formally announce the names of those who have been either elected or appointed to their respective positions.
Today´s meeting will get underway at 9am.
