Sonora, CA — 44 year old Jay Victor Zaborsky of Sonora has been positively identified as the victim of the Sierra Northern Railroad train incident during the Thursday noon hour.
The Sonora Police Department received a call at 12:21pm from the train´s crew that a male either passed out or sleeping on the southwest side of the track adjacent to the old Whitt Sawmill on Hospital Rd. had been hit by the locomotive.
The engineer spotted the individual and blew the warning horn but there was no response. Brakes were immediately applied but it was too late.
According to Chief Mace McIntosh Zaborsky was mediflighted to Memorial North Hospital in Modesto where he is listed in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit.
McIntosh added that the Department has no permanent address for Zaborsky.
